Colony of AdenAden Colony – "Aden Colony was both the official and the common name used all the time for that territory. It was so described in British or international documents and in articles in scholarly journals (for instance: R. R. Robbins, "The legal status of Aden Colony and the Aden Protectorate" The American Journal of International Law, 1939; or "BCG-vaccination campaign in Aden Colony", Bulletin of the World Health Organization, 31 Dec 1953. Other examples: ADEN COLONY (AMENDMENT) ORDER, The Secretary of State for the Colonies (HC Deb 20 October 1944). Lubiesque (talk) 19:23, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Queen Elizabeth's visit

[edit]

Frankly, the 1954 protocolary visit of Queen Elizabeth counts as hardly more than trivia. Does it warrant a separate section filled with quaint details? Lubiesque (talk) 14:49, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Lubiesque: to my knowledge it is the only Royal visit to Aden or Yemen ever which in itself makes it notable. There was also a knighting ceremony there and PBS NewsHour calls it historic. It has clearly had a legacy/impact see 1, 2 and 3. I don't believe it is notable enough for its own article but definitely a section, I think the history of Aden section needs to be expanded so the visit section won't seem as undue. Visits by Elizabeth II are quite notable on Wikipedia see List of Commonwealth visits made by Elizabeth II, Royal tours of Antigua and Barbuda, Royal tours of Australia, List of official openings by Elizabeth II in Australia, Royal tours of Canada#Elizabeth II, Royal tours of Jamaica, Royal visits to New Zealand, Royal tours of Saint Lucia, List of state visits made by Elizabeth II, State visit by Elizabeth II to Spain, State visit by Elizabeth II to Russia, State visit by Elizabeth II to the Republic of Ireland, List of state visits received by Elizabeth II, Queen of Sierra Leone#Royal tour of 1961, 2002 royal tour of Canada, etc. Sahaib (talk) 16:00, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

why not an article? Abo Yemen 13:58, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Abo Yemen: most of the web articles about the visit are cited in that section already, so I don't know if there is enough information for an article. Though I have found some information not in the article in online books such as that she is "supposed to have brought a piano & various other equipment with her, which the staff & management of the hotel seem have misplaced" in page 179 of the book Yemen by Daniel McLaughlin (2007) and some issues about translating "Her Majesty's title of Defender of the Faith in Arabic" in page 251 of the book Fibs, Facts and Farces: Tales from the Arab World by John Carter (2012). Sahaib (talk) 16:53, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I mean if it is notable enough there should be an article for it regardless of whether it would be short or long Abo Yemen 18:11, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Protectorate

[edit]

Currently the article's first mention of the protectorate is in the penultimate sentence of the introduction/lede: "On 18 January 1963, the protectorate was reconstituted" as if its earlier existence had already been mentioned {in a previous version?}. Either that should be mentioned in the introduction or the sentence edited. Mcljlm (talk) 13:21, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

After first writing the above and clicking Add Topic it appeared in italics. Why did that happen? Mcljlm (talk) 13:36, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
