[edit]

I have removed italics from two quotations in the text. WP style says: "Don't use italics for quotations. Instead, use quotation marks for short quotations and block quoting for long ones." Eddie Blick (talk) 01:43, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Re: WABC

[edit]
Widespread exposure came in the form of the Adelaide Hawley Program which she hosted From 1937 to 1950, first on NBC Radio, subsequently on CBS Radio.

This was on WABC. Did ABC refer to another network or is that just a coincidence? In other words, Hawley's show was on WABC, carried by NBC, then CBS. Very confusing. Viriditas (talk) 22:09, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

Given that the subject was known as "Adelaide Hawley" for most of her life, particularly during her career and highest level of fame, it apears that her common name in the literature is "Adelaide Hawley", not "Adelaide Hawley Cumming". Viriditas (talk) 22:14, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like her later career was long enough to make this proposal unworkable. Viriditas (talk) 22:51, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Her voice

[edit]

I'm watching Hawley as Betty Crocker and she has such a distinctive voice and accent that was so popular in 1950s entertainment. The way she talks makes it seem like she has both an east coast and a midwest accent; you rarely here this kind of thing today so I wonder where it has gone? I personally associate this accent with many of the woman actors from the so-called screwball comedy genre. Viriditas (talk) 01:10, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

She pronounces "about" like a Canadian. Viriditas (talk) 01:12, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Adelaide Hawley Program"

[edit]

I’ve added many of the different programs she hosted to the lead, but I still can’t find any evidence of a program called the "Adelaide Hawley Program". It’s possible that I’m wrong, but I have a hunch that the term "Adelaide Hawley Program" just refers to all of the different shows that were aired. Still looking into this.
