Periodic Beacon

[edit]

Under Advantages and Disadvantages the article says: "Another disadvantage of AODV is that the periodic beaconing leads to unnecessary bandwidth consumption."

The protocol description doesn't currently mention the beaconing. Does someone know when nodes send out beacons and could add this to the article? -- TripleF (talk) 16:56, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The "periodic beaconing" mentioned in that sentence seems to contradict the earlier statement in that article that "In AODV, the network is silent until a connection is needed.".
On the other hand, the ZigBee article says that ZiBee uses AODV routing, and "ZigBee protocols support beacon and non-beacon enabled networks.".
So apparently in *some* (most?) AODV networks, none of the nodes *ever* send out beacons.
Also apparently in other AODV networks, some (all?) of the nodes periodically send out beacons; it is unclear to me what (if any) effect beaconing has on AODV routing. --DavidCary (talk) 23:00, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
