I'm editing that, by the way, because where I'm from, that term used very, VERY heavily by whites, asians, blacks, and well...People of all races, quite simply. It's a sad fact, but one that is very true. --71.75.188.94 00:16, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Removal of Barack Obama part

I removed this from the 'In popular culture' section:

• Barack Obama is often questioned on whether he is "black enough" to represent the African American community as a potential presidential candidate, since he is not the descendant of slaves but the son of an African immigrant.[1][2] Also, Obama grew up in Hawaii, a state with a very small African American population, and the racial demographics are so diverse that blacks are sometimes considered "invisible."

Basically, I dispute it, and so we'll need sources to back it up. The current ones, while useful, don't.

The first says "it is beyond debate that an Obama win in 2008 would be by far the best thing that has happened to African-Americans, and to race relations, in more than 50 years.", the opposite of this paragraph.

I don't think the second addresses it.

Feel 100% free to prove me wrong, but it's a bit of a brave thing to say, as it's not fact set in stone, and I'd like a source to back it up, if it was me.

I'm going to remove the popular culture section which lists barack obama and bill cosby. I don't see how it is actually part of the article at hand. 70.189.30.78 (talk) 06:01, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I agree with 70.189.30.78 and will go one further, and remove the "Examples" section. Including Obama, Powell and Rice, without any external sources verifying (not just accusing) that they "act white", is violation of WP:OR. AllGloryToTheHypnotoad (talk) 00:57, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Acting white list

I have deleted the list. It over-simplified the author's thoughts and was mostly not accurate. If someone wants to write a paragraph on his ideas, that would be great. Gandydancer (talk) 23:29, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Dana White quotes

I have removed the Dana White quotes. To keep this quote in our article gives an unknown "associate" from the Heritage Foundation far too much weight - though I looked extensively at their site and could not find his name listed. Again and again in interviews of successful African Americans one hears individuals give their family, often their mother, credit for their struggle to find an education and for their success in their field of work. Perhaps Dana White had a different experience, but I feel that it does not represent the experience of many African Americans. Gandydancer (talk) 15:33, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

  • I question the concept that Obama could "act white," as he is in fact just as white as he is black. You can't act a race

It's not possible to act white or black. Acting "white" is being suburban, and acting "black" is being ghetto. Neither of those things are attributable to any one race, as any white person from a non-suburban background can tell you, and this article is pretty offensive.
