This page should be deleted as A. formosanus is now considered to by a junior synonym of A. paradoxus as per Fishbase 8/2011Divingpetrel (talk) 22:43, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- This split seems to have come about from an enzyme analysis in 1993:
- Sung, WS; Lee, SC; and Yu, MJ. 1993. Taxonomic statuts of the fishes of Acrossocheilus formosanus and A. labiatus (Cyprinidae: Barbinae) from Taiwan based on isozyme electrophoresis. Bulletin of the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica 32(2):127-139.
- I have not been able to access the paper yet, but will report when I can. I was able to find subsequent genetic work (Tseng et al 2008, J. Fish. Bio.) which includes the Sung paper as if it were accepted. My bet is that it is an accepted reassignment. There are several oddities I can't resolve from the abstract of the Sung paper, notably they say they reassign A. formosanus to Acrossocheilus paradox (Steindachner, 1892), rather than Acrossocheilus paradoxus (Gunther, 1868). I hope the article itself will clarify; I have not been able to locate A. paradox anywhere (no pun intended). --TeaDrinker (talk) 00:27, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
