Move proposal
[edit]Would there be any objections if this article were to be moved to it's current scientific name? According to the taxonomy available through ITIS, which has been applied to the rest of this series, the name it should then be moved to is Boa madagascariensis. --Jwinius (talk) 17:59, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Would you provide some references to current research to justify the move? The ITIS lists it traditionally as a Boa indeed (based on McDiarmid et al, 1999), but other sources, eg [1] name it Acrantophis. As far as I understand, it is not closely related to the South American Boa, and should be treated as such - or else, is there some newer phylogeny available that refutes the results of Vences et al., 2001 (Copeia, 2001(4), pp. 1151–1154), or Noonan et al. (Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution 40 (2006) 347–358)? Kaarel (talk) 14:07, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
