Article needs expansion beyond naval warfare

[edit]

Historically, acoustic signatures were used at the beginning of the 20th century to identify aircraft. There are also earlier historical examples involving detection and and reconnaissance regarding large armies or flotillas, and smaller groups.

Although measurement and signature intelligence dominates much of this field, acoustic signatures are also used in analysis of machinery, including identification of impending failures (e.g. bad bearings). Tracking of wildlife, such as whales and migrating birds, also makes use of this technology.

Computer analysis, networking, and micro/nanosensors are revolutionizing this field, and should be mentioned. Reify-tech (talk) 21:43, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dangerous use of Accoustics on hydrophone

[edit]

The validation on signature or fingerprint could only be used with controled Naval Maritime zones. Not for general population. DOD and DHS should be aware of these complexities of telecommunication use of hydrophone, some technology v2k and infrared may be considered torture. 199.201.77.232 (talk) 02:09, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
