The result of the move request was: not moved for the proposed target, no consensus to move for the alternate suggestion Acer (company). (page mover nac) Flooded with them hundreds 06:54, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
Acer Inc. → Acer – usually the article title is the common name of the company (Acer) with the legal/formal name used later on the article (Acer Inc.) e.g. see articles for Asus, Lenovo ElshadK (talk) 20:23, 23 October 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. В²C ☎ 00:30, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:24, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
- @ElshadK: But Acer is a disambig page. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:25, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
- Move to Acer (company), which already redirects to it. I agree it should be moved, but I don't think it's primary. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:16, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Necrothesp: Good idea ElshadK (talk) 18:12, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- Comment why do you want to merge the dab page into a hatnote on this page? -- 65.94.42.18 (talk) 03:57, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
- Reopen/relist: I previously closed this discussion in favor of moving to Acer (company) per consensus above. Since then I received a request to reopen/relist to allow presentation of other arguments and further discussion. So, I did. --В²C ☎ 00:35, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks, I asked for a relist.
- This RM was originally an PrimaryTopic proposal, but ended up being a move from Natural disambiguation to Parenthetical Disambiguation (moved to Acer (company), which is supposed to be undesirable.
- Looking through the reflist, from the top, which is supposed to be the collection of he best quality references, I see frequent usage of "Acer inc." or "Acer, inc." as the recognizable commonname (WP:UCRN), used in sources for precise titling of the topic, and with "Acer" being the shortened name used after the introduction has established the precise topic. A lesser strong candidate for title that should be considered before parenthetical disambiguation is Acer Group.
- I think "Acer inc." is a good enough COMMONNAME, but even if not, it is well used in sources for all of Acer inc., Acer, inc. & Acer Group to be preferable to Acer (company) --SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:53, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- We have huge numbers of articles disambiguated "(company)". Common disambiguation. Not a problem at all. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:18, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose just as Jobs and co named Apple after a tree, so Stan Shih named his laptop after a tree. As for (company) rather than Inc, see the next company in the same category Allergan, Inc., WP:NATURAL disambiguation is preferred so Oppose that too. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:46, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Comment Although Apple is at the longer name, Amazon (company) isn't. Although our article uses the full name in text, Google appears to show that its not that common, however I'd say that using the company's full name is at least acceptable as disambiguation. Crouch, Swale (talk) 12:51, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose.
- RE original proposal: No, not the primarytopic.
- RE alternative proposal: The status quo is the best preferred disambiguation. It best matches the quality refer noes. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 13:17, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Move to Acer (company). And I would move Apple Inc. to Apple (company) too, just like Amazon (company). That is, if a company is most commonly known by its plain name then I think we serve users better with parenthesized disambiguation than with natural disambiguation that can mislead the user about what the most common name is. Acer (company) makes it clear that the most common name is plain Acer; Acer Inc. incorrectly implies that it is Acer Inc. --В²C ☎ 17:04, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- WP:NCCORP says that the suffix can but does not have to be used for disambiguation. There's a good point that if we use natural disambiguation when its not a near equal choice, we do give the impression that "Acer Inc." is its usual name. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:04, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Acer inc. or Acer, inc. is the name used to introduce in the majority of quality sources currently listed as references. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:50, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - current natural disambiguation is the best option per WP:NCCORP. -- Netoholic @ 20:46, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Strongly oppose renaming the disambiguation page. Support move to Acer (company).

- Oppose the original proposal per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC but am fine with a move to Acer (company). — AjaxSmack 23:42, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
