[edit]I wish to edit this page but need to get your approval as I work for the Academy. The current text - and that on the page entitled 'Academy of Learned Societies in the Social Sciences - is out of date: apart from anything else, we have changed our name.
I propose to remove the other page [the one containing the word 'in' in the title] and update this one as follows:
"The Academy is the voice of the social sciences in the United Kingdom Its mission is to promote social sciences in the United Kingdom for the public benefit.
The Academy is composed of individual Academicians and Learned Societies. Academicians are distinguished scholars and practitioners from academia and the public and private sectors. They are entitled to use the postnominal letters ‘AcSS’ and have the title of Academician conferred on them after a process of nomination by other Academicians or learned societies and assessment of their eminence and contribution to social science. Most of the learned societies in the social sciences in the United Kingdom are represented within the Academy.
The Academy responds to Government and other consultations on behalf of the social science community, organises meetings about social science and seminars on topics that span social science disciplines, and sponsors a number of schemes that promote social science and enhance its value to society."
Please let me know if this will be OK. Chatsworth99 (talk) 07:49, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, I've moved the page and created an redirect from "Academy of Learned Societies in the Social Sciences". Concerning the
yourproposed changes, I actually cannot see a big difference from the current text, apart from the first line. This first line, however, doesn't pass our guideline of a neutral point of view. Your academy may represent the interests of someacademiansacademics of the social sciences in the UK, but it's not the voice of the social sciences in general there; and it certainly has a task or even a goal, but not a mission. --Axolotl Nr.733 (talk) 11:10, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Expanding and updating,
[edit]The recent changes were intended to expand the content and update it, with references. The previous Sources have been left as they were. I've removed the reference to the page being a stub. If there's a way of improving the referencing as the warning at the top suggests, I'd be happy to do this. Camsocsci (talk) 14:45, 13 July 2012 (UTC)CamSocsci
Removed warning on sources
[edit]The style for sources and references seems to be ok, so I've removed the warning. Please let me know if this is not ok.Camsocsci (talk) 09:54, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
