Criteria for Election
[edit]Please, does anybody know which are the criteria for somebody tog et elected to this institution? Looking from the outside they look random at best. Stellatomailing 03:24, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Membership is not random at all. Several members of the Academy are actually well-known contemporary Brazilian writers like Rachel de Queiroz, Lygia Fagundes Telles, Carlos Heitor Cony, Moacyr Scliar, João Ubaldo Ribeiro, Nélida Piñon, Zélia Gattai, Paulo Coelho, Sábato Magaldi and Ariano Suassuna. Several members are also notable linguists (like Evanildo Bechara) , literary scholars (like Alfredo Bosi), or well-known Brazilian journalists. 189.33.65.230 22:56, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- The election process is obscure and biased, former president Sarney and Paulo Coelho are both mediocre writer's. 18:27, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
