Abydos Dynasty

[edit]

Dear Iry-Hor,

I don't know how long this dynasty lasted but if it really consisted of 16 kings, it should have lasted longer than 20 years since the reigns of the known kings of this dynasty was already 14 years (2+2+4+3+3 years). The Univ. of Penn placed it at 1650-1600 BC here. Ryholt was publishing in the dark in 1997 and basing his 1997 book on the premise of a brief Hyksos conquest of Thebes so he dated them at 1650-1630 BC but the evidence of a Hyksos conquest of Thebes is unclear and Polz does not accept it, I think. So, its possible, that the Abydos dynasty lasted closer 50 years (maybe 40-50 years if Wegner's discovery of Seneb Kay's tomb proves that they existed rather than the 20 years figure in Ryholt's 1997 SIP book. You are right, I have been too quick to change the date. I realize I am heavily biased by the fact that I only have Baker's and Ryholt books at hand about the SIP. I will be more careful now to include discussions on dynasties / reign lengths etc... Iry-Hor (talk) 20:14, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I wish there was a map.

Any thoughts?

Very very good point. I might make one Iry-Hor (talk) 18:38, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really, really disappointed in this article. You haven't given the hieroglyphic equivalents of the names of the pharaohs. Adding that unintelligible information is a hallmark of the standard Wikipedia article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.127.77.172 (talk) 21:47, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This and other unintelligible informations are given in the various wikipedia pages of the pharaohs. Iry-Hor (talk) 10:58, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
