Abu sayyaf etymology
Intro says they are named after the literal meaning of the words composing the name. This is totally empty 'insight', but the source is also a dead link. Here is a link: https://web.stanford.edu/group/mappingmilitants/cgi-bin/groups/view/152. What is the conclusion on the name? It was personally concocted by Abdulrajak Janjalani as his own kunya after the famous Abdul Rasul Sayyaf. Did Janjalani actually fight in Afghanistan? Some dispute this, but regardless, Abdul Sayyaf was the best-known internationally of the afghan mujahedin, and this makes much better sense than "father of swordsmith".
