Boy! Did someone do a grafitti job on this page! I'm not even going to try to fix this one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.162.187.202 (talk) 04:55, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

@Magiciandude: I started review. Comments will be below. Review within 2023 GAN Backlog Drives. Eurohunter (talk) 15:21, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  1. "is a song from Cuban-American singer-songwriter" - shouldn't it be "is a song by Cuban-American singer-songwriter"? You are a native speaker of English, so you know better than me. 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
No per the article Cuban Americans
  1. Cuban son article is under Spanish name, so it suggests that there is no English name for it and I would stay with the original Spanish name. Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  2. "it topped both the Billboard Hot Latin Songs" - shouldn't it be "it topped both the Billboard's Hot Latin Songs". Same for section "Promotion and reception". Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  3. I added link to official music video published by artist in infobox. Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  4. If "Billboard Latin Music Award" is name of award then there is no point to add Billboard in italics. Same for "1996 Billboard Latin Music Awards" in section "Promotion and reception". 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
No, Billboard should always be italicized. See 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards and onwards
  1. "American singer Leslie Grace covered the song live as part the Lo Nuestro tribute to Estefan by Univision in 2018." - readers don't know what "Lo Nuestro" is. 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

Background and composition

[edit]
  1. I would try to incorporate descriptions of what was said than direct quotes of reviews and same for section "Promotion and reception". Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  2. "In the song, Estefan chants" - do you mean chant? There is no link. Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  3. I would add that "Kike Santander" was a writer. Eurohunter (talk) 17:36, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  4. No information about duration of song. Eurohunter (talk) 20:13, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at FA-class songs like Alejandro (song) and 4 Minutes, neither the duration nor mentioning the previous and next singles are required.

Promotion and reception

[edit]
  1. "A re-recording of the song was included on her fourteenth studio album Brazil305 (2020) and incorporates Brazilian music." - proposal "A re-recording of the song was included on her fourteenth studio album Brazil305 (2020) and this version incorporates Brazilian music." Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  2. "An editor for El Tiempo felt that the blending of the two genres "works well"" - which version of El Tiempo it is? Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  3. "Tropical/Salsa field" - what that mean? Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  4. References to charts in table of section "Charts" has ref name parameters but they are not used above in the text so references are doubled. Eurohunter (talk) 21:44, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Formats and track listings

[edit]
  1. It' not "promotional single" and there is few other version and formats. Also, there is problem with reference. Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Use template Track listing. Eurohunter (talk) 17:31, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  3. 1995 original version wasn't released digitally? Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Other

[edit]
  1. There is no introduction to previos "Cherchez La Femme" and next "Más Allá" singles in the whole article, expect infobox. Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Why is the title "Abriendo Puertas" capitalised if Spanish titles shouldn't be capitalised same as Swedish, French etc.? Additionally ESWP has lower case es:Abriendo puertas (canción). Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  3. I made some minor fixes. Eurohunter (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  4. "Credits and personnel" and "Release history" sections are missing. Eurohunter (talk) 17:31, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Cover File:Gloria Estefan Abriendo Puertas Single.jpg is lower quality and size than it could be. Eurohunter (talk) 17:33, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Would you upload and add audio sample to infobox? Eurohunter (talk) 17:33, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  7. There is no introduction to label Epic in the whole article. Eurohunter (talk) 17:38, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  8. I wouldn't cut "Records" if it's Epic Records otherwise how do I know if it isn't "Epic Something Else"? Eurohunter (talk) 17:36, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  9. I added Category:Song recordings produced by Kike Santander and Category:Song recordings produced by Emilio Estefan. Eurohunter (talk) 17:40, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  10. Add table with awards like in Boten Anna#Awards. Eurohunter (talk) 17:42, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  11. Replace parameter "Work" or "Publisher" with "Website" in references. Eurohunter (talk) 21:43, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll get to this article and others you've reviewed on Sunday. However, per WP:UE, foreign-language works are to utilize what reliable English-language sources. It's referred to as "Abriendo Puertas" on several reviews as well. Erick (talk) 16:01, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay again, I'll definitely have this done Sunday. Erick (talk) 20:31, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Magiciandude: No problem. Eurohunter (talk) 15:27, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So I did most of what you asked except for the following: The capitalization of foreign-language is dependent on what reliable English-language sources say. Reviewers have it as "Abriendo Puertas". Looking at FA-class articles, there's no need to mention the duration, the previous and following single on the body of the article, the track listing is fine as that's how others have it. For the website part, putting website in place of publisher would italicize them which isn't recommended for websites like AllMusic. Erick (talk) 21:10, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Pass/Fail:

Hello Erick, I'm going to finish the review. I'm not sure what pace I'll take, but should be able to wrap up by the end of the week. The previous reviewer seems to have covered prose so I will likely skip that, unless there are sections that you would like another set of eyes on. Rjjiii (talk) 03:16, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Source spot-checking:[1]

  • [1] "Emilio Estefan, Producer Settle". Sun-Sentinel. March 23, 2002. Reliable source, verifies everything from "which was" to the citation. Release date and title of the album, can be verified from the album.
  • [2] Promis, Jose F. "Abriendo Puertas - Gloria Estefan". AllMusic. Citing the staff article which is accepted from AllMusic. Verifies the sentence.
  • [3] O'Brien, Jon (September 25, 2020). "Gloria Estefan's 'Abriendo Puertas' Turns 25". Grammy. Reliable source, verifies the sentence.
  • [4] Cabrera, Juan Fermin (June 29, 1995). "Estefan Records in Spanish Once Again". New York Daily News. p. 21E. Reliable source verifies the sentence.
  • [5] Raquel, Diana (September 7, 1995). "Aqui y Alla: Humberto Ramirez llega a Orlando". La Prensa de San Antonio (in Spanish). p. 17. Reliable source only seems to verify "vallenato"; this is fine because the other citation verifies the rest of the sentence.
  • [13] "Abriendo Puertas". El Tiempo (in Spanish). November 21, 1995. This one stuck out to me when scanning the article's quotations because the quote is in English and the source in Spanish. It says Todos estos elementos y ritmos trabajan muy bien cuando son mezclados. which does verify the sentence but I don't think it makes sense to attribute "works well" here, since it has been translated and then re-phrased for grammar.

Aside from the one issue with the "quote" cited to source 13, I don't see any copyright violations, plagiarism, or failed verification. Looking good so far, Rjjiii (talk) 04:09, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Image review:

That's the only image used; it just needs the alt parameter filled out. Rjjiii (talk) 04:15, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Scanning for minor prose concerns and NPOV issues but not major changes to prose:

  • The song received positive reactions from three music critics, who mostly praised the instruments. This makes it sound like only 3 critics had a positive reaction to the song.
  • The song is a vallenato track with a mix Son cubano and grammar
  • The accompanying music video interspeds Estefan performing while farmers are growing their crops. I'm not sure from the location if this refers to a music video for the 1995 song, or the 2020 version. Do any sources note the significance of the farmers to the song?
  • It was also recognized as on the best-performing songs of the year... grammar

Those are the only things I noticed. All of the opinions were clearly attributed to sources.Rjjiii (talk) 04:29, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Magiciandude: I've noted some minor issues above. Most of the issues from the first reviewer have been addressed, and the suggestions that were not acted upon (like a fair use audio sample) are not part of the GA criteria. Rjjiii (talk) 03:57, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Rjjiii Thanks for the finishing the review! I have copyedited the issues that were brought up. I couldn't find a source that signifies farmers growing crops. Erick (talk) 15:12, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! And yeah, if reliable sources note the farmers but don't note significance, that's all our article can say. Rjjiii (talk) 03:58, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Magiciandude: The last 2 things I noted above are alt text for the infobox image (|alt= parameter), and the "works well" quote, Rjjiii (talk) 04:14, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Got them! How does it looks now? Erick (talk) 16:58, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alt text is good. I don't understand why "mixes well" is in quotes? Rjjiii (ii) (talk) 00:32, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
After a week with no reply, I've just removed the quotes. Rjjiii (talk) 02:36, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
