[edit]Whoa, mule, ... whoa! The typical negro who lived in Florida when Mr. Lewis was alive was a plowman who wore workingmen's clothing known as "bib overalls." They plowed fields using a plow pulled by a mule, that he commanded by saying: "Whoa, mule, ... whoa!" Many Negroes were lynched in Florida during his time. I do not see any proof that Mr. Lewis was a "millionaire." Negroes were only being paid about 50 cents for a day's work, therefore, they could not purchase "insurance" (as the article hints). Whoa, mule, ... whoa! Where is the proof that a colored boy in Florida became a "millionaire?" Superslum 15:38, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, I stumbled across this article while seeking to identify the person who inaugurated the use of the word "Afro-American." William Archer wrote a book titled Through Afro-America in 1910, so the word may have originated with him. Superslum 16:00, 10 August 2006 (UTC) Hallelujah!

Afro-American Life Insurance Company
[edit]Wanted to note that there are many variations on the original name of this company; however, sources do confirm that it is more popularly known as the Afro-American Life Insurance Company, often shortened to AFRO. Nickscoby (talk) 21:15, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
