New section
[edit]- Despite unsafe abortion complications being a major contributor of maternal mortality in Uganda, this article on abortion in Uganda is generally limited in content or contributions. Improving discourse in Uganda on reducing the risk of maternal morbidity and mortality due to complications of abortion is warranted despite legal issues around having abortion restrictive laws such as promotion and utilization of effective contraception postpartum such as long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC). - An outline of this article in form of a table of contents would introduce the readers to key components surrounding this topic. Some suggestions about the table of contents/outline include: Abortion in Uganda, Definitions of abortion in Uganda, Laws on women's sexual reproduction and abortion, Abortion and Anti-abortion laws, Abortion discourse in Uganda, Role of culture, science and religion, Policy issues, Government family planning, Post-abortion care in Uganda, Movements, References and External Links. - I agree that adding more sections to this article would greatly benefit it. Some things to consider may be a discussion of the impact of the Sustainable Development Goals, as they are more recent than the Millenium Development Goals discussed here, a discussion of the impact of maternal morbidity and mortality due to unsafe abortion, and as the previous user said, a discussion of the role of culture and religion on this topic in Uganda. I believe that the parenthetical entry that equates the pro-choice movement to "pro-abortion" should also be removed, and there is also a sentence in this article that discusses female life expectancy in Uganda, but puts it in terms of a percentage rather than an age in years. Either the percentage is referencing another metric or the life expectancy should be changed to the unit of years. Nicolekoonce (talk) 02:36, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
Add A Fact: "Confusion over Uganda abortion laws"
[edit]I found a fact that might belong in this article. See the quote below
Uganda’s constitution says that abortion is illegal unless provided for under the law, but there is no definitive legislation on abortion in the country.
“The confusion leads to no access whatsoever to the service, because anyone who does it assumes that they’re doing it illegally and could be sent to prison,” explained Primah Kwagala, a lawyer and director of a Kampala-based legal nonprofit, the Women’s Probono Initiative.
The fact comes from the following source:
Here is a wikitext snippet to use as a reference:
