Linking to people's photo albums
[edit]Is it appropriate to be linking to people's personal photo albums from their trips along the Coast Track? For one thing, it's specific to a particular area of the park, but it also just seems to be setting a precedent for coming along and adding hundreds of links, because that's probably how many photo albums are likely to be out there. Expansion of content needed
[edit]There is a lot more that could be usefully added to this article. For instance:
- the high popularity of the track (particularly with international visitors), leading to congestion and the need for a booking system
- the huts
- the length of the track between the more popular access points
- the fact that at Torrent Bay, the route passes across tidal mudflats, and that transit across the estuary is only possible at mid-low tide (but an inland deviation is available)
- the access that is possible from Totaranui
- access to various points along the track is possible via water taxis
- the small sections of privately owned land that the walk passes by (for example at Torrent Bay)
- expand the content about crowdfunding by 40,000 people that led to donations of almost NZ$2.3m (£1.3m, $1.7m) to buy the Awaroa beach in 2016
- the section on flora needs considerable expansion
- overall, a lot more is needed about the reason why it has been made a national park. There are 30 pages of content about natural and historic heritage preservation in the National Park Management Plan 2008-2018. Some key features and highlights should be added, using the management plan as one (but not all) of the sources. [1]

Map errors
[edit]I've had a quick look at the infobox map that comes from OSM and this map contains a multitude of errors. On the adjacent map, I've marked in red areas that are part of the national park but missing from the map, and in blue those areas that are shown as being part of the park when this is not so. The numbers refer to those areas:
- The area around the Abel Tasman Monument belongs to the park (it's physically detached)
- The Tata Islands belong to the park
- Part of Wainui spit is part of the park
- There's an area that is physically detached near the beginning of the Wainui Falls track that is part of the park
- Hadfields Clearing was added to the national park in 2007
- There's an area adjacent to Awaroa beach that is not part of the park
- This is an area near Harwoods Hole that must have been added later
- Most of Canaan Downs isn't part of the park
- There's a sizeable piece of land near Motuareronui / Adele Island that is part of the park
- A marginal strip along the coastline is part of the park.
I've got my map that I compared this against from the Koordinates website, i.e. one can assume that the GIS data there are correct. Schwede66 05:19, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Schwede66: I've made some rough changes to fix these up, which should populate to the infobox map by tomorrow. I've also flagged my edits and hopefully someone with better skill can draw the boundaries more accurately! Prosperosity (talk) 02:49, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Awesome. Thanks! Schwede66 02:50, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
