I'm pinging @Robby.is.on here, because he has enormous experience with this, and I don't want to venture into 3R territory. If you check the recent edits to this page, you'll see that a user has insisted on changing the short description to "Israeli footballer," even though the player only represented Palestine internationally and is no longer eligible to represent Israel due to being cap-tied. It is standard WP:FOOTY practice to make the nationality ambiguous in this situation, but the editor is clearly not aware of that. I'm opening this up to further discussion and including a very experienced editor when it comes to phrasing and formatting to seek clarity. Anwegmann (talk) 22:10, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Anwegmann. I think it makes sense to not specify a nationality in the short description the same we do not specify one in the first sentence of the lede and rather indicate the subject's nationality is ambiguous ("is a professional footballer who plays […]. Born in Israel, he represented the Palestine national team").
