Birthplace

[edit]

The Swedish Wikipedia says that he was born in Zagra, while the Turkish one say that he was born in Çırpan, a small mountain town in northern Anatolia. Zagra could be either of two towns, one in Muğla Province at 37°21′N 28°35′E / 37.350°N 28.583°E / 37.350; 28.583, and the other in Şanlıurfa Province in southern Anatolia near the Euphrates at 37°10′N 37°59′E / 37.167°N 37.983°E / 37.167; 37.983. The Turkish Wikipedia even gives him the cognomen "Çırpanlı" see Çırpanlı Abdülkerim Nadir Paşa. Bejnar 23:26, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not. German Wikipedia gives Stara Zagora (in Turkish Eski Zağra). Çırpan should be Chirpan a smaller town nearby. --Nk 13:49, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with identification of Çırpan with Chirpan, and that does explain the Swedish reference. --Bejnar 18:12, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Abdülkerim Nadir PashaAbdi Pasha – per WP:COMMONNAME & WP:USEENGLISH.

According to Candan Badem, The Ottoman Anatolian army was in a much neglected state in comparison with the Rumelian army. The Anatolian army was under the command of Müşir Abdülkerim Nadir Pasha (better known as Çırpanlı Abdi Pasha, 1807-1883) and this army was deployed in Erzurum, Kars, Ardahan and Bayezid.[1]
