Gonands

Not sure about that gonand bit - it sounds more like geoduck than abalone. Anyone care to verify that?

Only found this news article so far, which may have confused abalone gonads with sea urchin gonads/roe. -- Zigger 01:36, 2004 Mar 8 (UTC)

Caption Clarification

It looks raw to me. It would be good to have a view of the live abalone from under the shell, showing the body in the shell. Nereocystis 06:39, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

What's in a name?

"Abalone is the American English variant of the Spanish name Abulón ..." says the article. If it is Am. Eng. only, then what's it called in other dialects? However, I don't think it is Am. Eng. only: that's what they're called in Australia. The American Heritage Dictionary does not list any alternate name. On the other hand, I can't find the word in the Cambridge Dictionary. Also, List of English words of Native American origin notes that the word was originally from the Rumsen language. This would be worth including. However, the American Heritage Dictionary makes not mention of this. Jimp 01:55, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Abalone Farming?

I came to this page to get some information about modern techniques used in abalone farming, but it lacks even a mention of abalone farming. Could someone who is knowlegable fill in this gap in what is otherwise a good article? Thanks --lk 11:28, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
