Smicha from Rabbi Moshe Feinstein
[edit]Hi TLMD13. Could you tell me where you know that Rabbi Rakeffet got smicha from Rabbi Feinstein? I've listened to several years worth of his tapes and never heard this.--Wizir01 (talk) 15:08, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Wizir01. If I recall correctly, he has a tape where he talks about the mussar movement and the chain of semicha from baalei mussar to Rabbi Lessin, and in passing mentions his three semichas: his rebbe's/YU, R' Moshe, and R' Lessin. (But no he doesn't bring it up very often; I think that was the only time I've heard it, and even then he just mentioned it in passing.) I've listened to quite a few of the tapes, but in no particular order or organization, so I'm afraid I can't pinpoint it. But maybe this one? http://www.yutorah.org/lectures/lecture.cfm/719275/Rabbi_Aaron_Rakeffet-Rothkoff/2006-01-09_Why_Mussar TLMD13 (talk) 18:25, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
TLMD13: If I recall correctly, he was joking. He was referring to the sha'ala that he asked R. Moshe about whether he could put up a second mezuza on his parent's doorpost since the first one had been painted over. Rav Moshe sent him back a letter and called him Rav Rothkoff or something like that. Rabbi Rakeffet joked and said that this was his smicha from R' Moshe.--Wizir01 (talk) 20:15, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Wizir01: Hm; they way I'd recalled it being used (again, the context was that he said he would bring in his semicha certificate from R' Lessin to show the class, and that he had from R' Yoshe Ber, R' Moshe, and R' Lessin) it was meant seriously. I'm aware of the mezuza question story, and this would have been later in R' Rakeffet's life. But at the risk of violating bal tosif, I'll remove the R' Moshe semicha until I can find which shiur it was -- and then we can both listen to it and decide if it was intended seriously -- or someone could ask him; he's supposed to be in the Silver Spring area the weekend of July 10, 2010 from what I hear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TLMD13 (talk • contribs) 23:26, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Okay I communicated with R' Rakeffet: he told me has RIETS smicha signed by RYBS and Rabbi Dr. Belkin z"l, and an additional smicha from the mashgiach, R' Lessin. The R' Moshe comment must have been a joke, or me mis-hearing or mis-remembering. Wizir01, thanks for catching me on this. TLMD13 (talk) 16:52, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
