Surviving copy of the film

Under production details, the article states that

Some evidence suggests a copy of the film survived at the Chaplin studio until at least the late 1930s, but no copy 
exists in the current Chaplin film archives. Oona Chaplin burned the last remaining copy in 1991.

If Oona Chaplin burned the last remaining copy in 1991, then why does it matter if there is evidence of its surviving at the Chaplin studio until the 1930s? What source states definitively that Oona Chaplin burned the last remaining copy?
