Diary

[edit]

I happen to have just re-read A Time of Gifts, and looked at the page from curiosity. Having so recently refreshed my memory, I knew that the statement that the book's publication was delayed due to the loss of the author's diaries, eventually rediscovered, wasn't quite correct. Firstly it was a diary, not diaries. Secondly, if anything publication was delayed by the discovery of the diary. He was already writing the book, and revised what he had written in the light of the diary, then mining it extensively for the remaining portions. But the book was being written anyway and would have appeared, though clearly the final result would have been somewhat different. I rewrote the statement to reflect this.

Two books in one page

[edit]

I came to this page because I was looking up the two books separately, following the link for each book from the page about the author. Upon doing that, I became confused when both links came to the same page as each other. I thought I had done something wrong, and then when I tried again, I thought there was a wrong link in Wikipedia. Then I saw the redirection and the description of the second book lower down as a sort of afterthought. I believe that the way that this has been done is not satisfactory at present. If it is the continued clear preference that both books must be covered in the same Wikipedia page (because of their being about two parts of the same journey), they should receive equal billing in the main title - Time of Gifts and Between the Woods and the Water. This problem is accentuated later on. We have a paragraph starting "In the book" - but which book? - the context seems to suggest it's the second one. But then the paragraph goes on to talk about Germany, which is in the first book. All this confusion may be appropriate for a PLF book, but probably not for an encylopedia. Agree. The current arrangement is unsatisfactory. Everybody got to be somewhere! (talk) 19:41, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It should be two separate articles, definitely. If the books are going to be lumped together then The Lost Road (the fragmentary third volume, which is forthcoming) would have to be added as well; it's silly. 850 C (talk) 20:05, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
