Moved to A Performance of Hamlet in the Village of Mrdusa Donja. Consensus is now clear. BD2412 T 01:45, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Acting Hamlet in the Village of Mrdusa DonjaHamlet in the Village of Mrdusa Donja – This is a rather sloppy translation of the Serbo-Croatian title. Not a single english-speaking soul will search for this movie with 'Acting' literally translated. One does not 'act' a play in english, but performs one or acts ín one. 'Performing Hamlet...' however sounds rather odd, even though in Serbo-Croatian it perfectly works. The correct translation is 'Hamlet in the Village of Mrdusa Donja,' and I can assure you that pretty much everyone searching for the english page will search for it in this way. Or Liberated Cinema: The Yugoslav Experience, 1945-2001 Daniel J. Goulding · 2002 "Some spark of it remained in Krsto Papić's film A Village Performance of Hamlet ( Predstava Hamleta u selu Mrduša Donja , 1973 ) , based on a controversial play of the same name by Ivo Brešan." Since the Wikipedia article already existed under this name in 2011, the first source is probably a case of WP:CITOGENESIS (ie. the author took the translation from Wikipedia). --Un assiolo (talk) 19:51, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Strongly Support The two examples named by user 'In ictu oculi'are two differing free translations of the title, only supporting the claim that one definitive translation does not exist. Next to that, 'A Village Performance of Hamlet' is the only grammatically correct of the two. There is no such thing as 'Acting Hamlet,' that is an ungrammatical literal translation. The movie, like the play, is commonly known and referred to as Hamlet in the Village of Mrdusa Donja. Using that title people searching for either of the two quoted variations will be able to find it, since both contain these words. Gerrit Springers (talk) 12:51, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerrit Springers: You are not allowed 2 !votes; your nomination already counts as one, it is not necessary (in fact, rather confusing) to repeat it. I have stricken the bolded vote and placed your comment where it should naturally go. See WP:TPG. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 03:22, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
