[edit]Paragraphs 4 - 6 are hard to follow.
You are correct. The story of the literary work got mixed up with the story of the actual events. We should separate them. Check back in a few days. alteripse 07:00, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
This "enlightened, inspirational" interpretation
[edit]I don't know what this means. I suspect the quotes are really just POV scare-quotes, so the adjectives should be cut. But I also can't tell what the "interpretation" is in the preceding paragraph, or what is being interpreted. Can this be rewritten for sense?

Yeah...I don't get it either. Probably some 16 year old Wiki editor who thinks it's a fiasco that Rowan did not Ramboesque deliver the message. But the whole point of the essay is that he did whatever was needed, used whatever tools available to get the message delivered. And (I've read some excellent research on him) he really did take the initiative and move out immediately. Since no reply for last 2 years, I will cut the POV "even" crap (as if this writer had discovered some bombshell or something against the essay or Rowan...when he hasn't...and shouldn't POV in original research and impressions.) Defaultsort includes leading article?
[edit]Is there a reason why the leading article ("A") is listed as the defaultsort? If not, I would like to change it. KConWiki (talk) 16:13, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Total Revision of Article
[edit]I'm planning to replace the entire A Message to Garcia article because much of the current material is untrue, incomplete, or irrelevant. The draft can be seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Message_to_Garcia&veaction=edit Some years ago, inspired by Elbert Hubbard's essay, I decided to write a children's biography of Rowan, something that had never been done. I didn't have to dig too deeply to realize that nothing Hubbard had written about Rowan's trip to Cuba was true. So I wrote an adult biography instead. My peer-reviewed 383-page book, "Cast in Deathless Bronze: Andrew Rowan, the Spanish-American War, and the Origins of American Empire," was published last December by the West Virginia University Press. As someone who regularly depends on Wikipedia as a source of accurate information, I'd like to do my part to maintain that standard. It's time, I think, to demythologize Andrew Rowan and his message to García. I'm new to Wikipedia as an editor, so I apologize for any format or social gaffes I may have committed. Please let me have your suggestions and corrections.
Not having gotten any reactions, I decided to go ahead and replace the existing article with my total revision. I welcome any comments, observations, corrections, etc.
