- I highly doubt Gandhi knew enough Russian to be able translate a letter from Tolstoy. He did, however, speak English fluently, after having spent time in London. I think it's much more likely therefore that he took the original copy he had read - in English, as it was published in the English newspaper Free Hindustan - and just translated from that. I would assume that Tolstoy had it translated into English himself before even sending it to India. Good job, SuzanneKn, for pointing it out. --Martin.fish (talk) 23:32, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
