Reversal of plot changes

[edit]

I have reverted recent good faith changes to the previous plot text because:

  • The statement that the Dutch ship is "beset by a shipboard epidemic of fever" appears incorrect;
  • The statement that the Dutch captain is "also suffering from delirium" appears incorrect. He is simply a bound prisoner trying to free himself;
  • The "British frigate" is actually described as "a Royal Navy cutter";
  • "Piracy is also a hanging offence" is incorrect. The statement is made in court that this is no longer the case i.e. the pirates would have escaped execution had it had been established that none of them were involved in the killing of the Dutch captain. Disagree on the ending

[edit]

I changed nothing, but I just saw the movie and disagree with the way the court scene is described: "Emily blames Chavez for killing the Dutch captain". I don't think this is the case, Emily just states that Chavez was in the cabin, also that he had a knife. Also says that the death of the Dutch captain was awful, but she never said the first killed the second. Of course that is what the interrogator wants every one to believe. Interestingly in the page for the book with the same title it is clearly stated that Emily did not blame Chavez directly.

If no one disagrees I will change this point in some weeks. zeycus (talk) 00:15, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Last words to each other

[edit]

As I remember the book and movie Zac says to Chavez "we are not guilty". In response Chavez says we are probably guilty of something. The point being that while they are innocent of killing the Dutch captain there were unprosecuted crimes they could have been executed for but got away with. Date

[edit]

Do we have a clear authority for the date? It could be a bit vague, but 1870 seems rather late, were there still significant numbers of pirates at that time?

Also, is Quinn's Spanish accurate? I realise that he was supposed to be drunk at times so it could be slurred. At one point he seems to be saying "oui oui". PatGallacher (talk) 22:13, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
