The article needs to be updated -- AMD is no longer in business. It should probably be renamed Zenith 601/Zodiac or something like that, with notes that the aircraft was available as a factory built S-LSA for some time from AMD. There were certainly not 1,000 AMD Zodiacs built; perhaps 10 and perhaps 1,000 Zenith/Zenair kits. Altaphon (talk) 23:00, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- Downey, Julia: 2008 Kit Aircraft Directory, Kitplanes, Volume 24, Number 12, December 2007, page 80. Primedia Publications. ISSN 0891-1851 reports that at that time 950 Zodiacs had been completed and flown. That would be all 601 models built by AMD, Zenith, Zenair and Flypass as complete aircraft and as kits. Keep in mind that completed aircraft have been sold in Canada as AULAs since 1991. - Ahunt (talk) 00:53, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- My AMD Zodiac was S/N 60. I think they built 20 or so more after that, all 650s; my 601XLi was the last of that model built. And, of course as Ahunt notes, there were lots of kits built. With that said, however, I will agree that a rename is probably in order, with a redirect from this name. -- Jay Maynard (talk) 01:36, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Canopy accident notability
[edit]The Chattanooga accident is at least the second one I know of; the other was a forced landing in 2008 when the canopy came open in flight, resulting in the eventual death of the instructor a few months later from his injuries. See http://www.aopa.org/asf//ntsb/narrative.cfm?ackey=1&evid=20080818X01256 . Given that, I expect the Chattanooga accident to generate the SLSA equivalent of an AD. -- Jay Maynard (talk) 21:38, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
