Stampede Wrestling alumni?
I noticed that he is placed in the Stampede Wrestling alumni category. I have never heard of AJ Styles competing in that promotion. Please provide proof that Styles did in fact comepte in that promotion. I am removing that category. Mr. C.C. 03:23, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Three time Triple Crown Winner
I don't know why but TNA refers AJ Styles as a 2 time not 3 time Triple Crown Winner. (At Slammiversary 07 or at one of the recent TNA Today) I don't know why because he is a 3 time World Champion, 4 time Tag Team Champion and 6 times X Division Champion. Could someone explain this? - Jaro Link
- Slammiversary 07, and they didn't have their facts right that time. Every other time, I remember him being called a 3-time Triple Crown Champion. 209.247.22.135 21:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Training
I've attended many training seminars/Q&A's and he always mentions that Rick Michales never trained him, but that "if that's what he believes, then so be it". I don't know if he ever retracted that statement, but he claims that he pretty much trained himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.124.4.220 (talk) 04:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Controversy
OK I'M GOING TO LET EVERYONE KNOW, AJ STYLES IS NOT, I REPEAT NOT, GAY, HE'S A FRIEND OF MINE IN ALL SERIOUSNESS, NO, HE IS NOT GAY, ONR DOES HE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH GAYS
(my e-mail address: clement-63@hotmail.com) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.93.39.46 (talk) 22:27, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
A.J has been accused of homophobia in the past, I have cited 2 sources where there are raging debates over his comments AND his comment has become a meme, therefore it should stay.
Something that happened TWO DAYS AGO, and was mentioned on a message board or two is not necessarilly either 'controversy' or 'an internet meme.' I think the whole thing needs to go. It's just stupid. As for "the gay community" being in on the controversy, I doubt the gay commnity cares. BoosterBronze 04:43, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
I deleted the section. Forums are not considered reliable sources, and calling this a controversy so early after the event is jumping the gun. -- The Hybrid 04:56, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
I cited two message boards, there are more including some in the gay community. Being gay I think I have a better view point whether not we care of not. --EdWood 15:43, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, but you don't count as a source, and message boards are treated as equal to forums on Wikipedia. They are just a collection of opinions, nothing concrete or reliable, and they don't necessarily reflect the views of the overall population. They are only opinions from small sections of the group. Also, as I said before, calling this a controversy so early is jumping the gun, and will probably fade after a couple of weeks. --The Hybrid 22:51, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
I never said I was a source, I said I would have a better point of view than BBronze. I once again disagree with you, a controversy, regardless of how long it lasts is a controversy. His statements have proven controversial and are being debated by people in the wrestling and gay communities.--EdWood 00:18, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
If it's really being discusses by anyone in the 'gay community' on any level more meaningful than messageboard bantering, please cite the article, or published commentary, or news report of the huge protests against AJ's extremely controversial and devisive statements. Otherwise, this is a bunch of wrestling fans cracking some jokes over an awkward moment in a relatively unimportant interview. A controversy that doesn't last isn't a controversy, and this is the least controversial controversy I've ever seen. If you google "AJ Styles Gay" the top page is THIS article. There is no controversy. And EdWood, is that you on these messageboards you cite trying to get fans to heckle Styles as a homophobe? BoosterBronze 01:19, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
What makes this miniscule outcry notable enough to put into this article? This isn't big. Word of this isn't spreading. What about this is notable enough to be in this article? -- The Hybrid 01:27, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Hyrbid, I think this EdWood guy is also one of the main posters on the message boards he's 'citing.' This is just nonsense. The most controversy generated over this whole affair is the discussion between the three dudes editing this page. BoosterBronze 04:05, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
I know. I was just trying to make a point since a lot of people don't just quit. -- The Hybrid 04:08, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
After looking at your profiles you two are deleting this because you are smarks. I am done, I hope you are happy you win.--EdWood 20:56, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Sure, believe whatever makes you feel better. I don't care. -- The Hybrid 22:07, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
I was for deleting it because of the reasons I stated above. EdWood, if you dislike "smarks" so much, why frequent wrestling message boards? BoosterBronze 05:52, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Journal?
I found with journal on Google and I was wondering if it is really A.J.'s journal. He talks about an ex-wife (I think) named Lilian and a little girl named Ava and it seems to say that he was seeing two women at the same time or he cheated on his wife Wendy! Can someone tell me if this is a real journal by A.J. himself or not?(MgTurtle 01:05, 8 August 2007 (UTC)).
You just proved it's not. If it can't say concisely whether he was seeing two women at once, whether he cheated on Wendy, or whether he just doesn't want to talk about it, then it's not him. There has to be some angle, and from that statement of "it seems to say", that seems to me like it doesn't know what to say. 209.247.22.135 21:34, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

It's AJ, not A.J
If you look on any wrestling site, you will see that's how it's spelled. How hard is it to check things, before reverting back or whatever happened?!
Look on TNA's official site, it's spelled AJ. Just about every site lists him as "AJ" not "A.J". I realize the periods make it look neater or whatever, but it simply isn't how his name is spelled.
- "A.J. Styles" is grammatically correct. As stated in Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names), the most common name should not be used where it is erroneous, e.g. tidal wave. McPhail 18:18, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
I still don't see why it's a big deal! Why make it grammatically correct, when it is NOT how the name is spelled by wrestling companies? The right way to spell it, should be the version on Wikipedia... not some wrong way, just because it's "grammatically correct".
- But some wrestling companies spell his name "A.J.", e.g. NWA Wildside. Moreover, "AJ" is patently incorrect, given that he has acknowledged that it is his initials. McPhail 00:13, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- I believe that it should be spelled AJ. Sure, it may not be grammatically correct, but neither is Rhyno for example. Also, in the wikipedia article for CM Punk it says CM Punk and not C.M. Punk. 83.233.58.34 23:30, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- CM ain't initials. --Aaru Bui DII 09:59, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Take a look at http://www.stylesclash.net/, which is apparently Styles's official site. They write both AJ and A.J. (and even Aj in the title). Since it's mentioned as both, it should probably be A.J. styles since that is grammatically correct. I stand corrected. 83.233.58.35 06:24, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that the article should be re named AJ not A.J. On the official TNA website, the roster says AJ, not A.J. Also when he is mentioned in almost every other article, it is AJ Styles. I agree with the name change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skilldog2 (talk • contribs) 02:15, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

TNA Section
This is currently the last sentence of the TNA Section, "Sting then attacked A.J. which in the process staring a feud between them." I think there are two problems with a sentence. The first is that the grammar is very poor. However, I think the sentence should be deleted. It's by no means certain that this story line will lead to a notable feud between Styles and Sting. Tutenkanem (talk) 05:19, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Delete it. All we know at the moment is Sting is unknown, either a heel or a face. He hasn't had a match with a face or heel, neither has he had a tag match with a heel vs a face tag team. Also haven't you noticed the whole page is messed up. Good thing is it will be a COTW after Sunday.--WillC 05:40, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

The introduction states that "He (AJ), James Storm, and Jeff Jarrett are the only wrestlers to perform on the inaugural NWA-TNA pay-per-view event on June 19, 2002, and still be employed by the company in a wrestling role today." This is incorrect, as Abyss also appeared, he fought in the Gauntlet for the Gold for the NWA WHC. Tory88 (talk) 14:21, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned references in A.J. Styles
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of A.J. Styles's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

So, the title of this page is "A.J. Styles" and yet in the first sentence, it has a parenthetical comment saying that "A.J." is incorrect. AJ with Ring of Honor
A number of excited editors have been making very questionable edits to this article so let's get a couple of things straight.
- ROH's press release that AJ is "signed for a match against Roderick Strong" does not consitute a reliable statement that Styles is exclusively contracted to the company.
- The fact that AJ Styles has agreed to have a wrestling match in the future is not hugely significant. If and when it happens, sure let's write about it. But Wikipedia is not a collection of announcements of future events and it's definitely not a diary.
Let's try to keep a cool head, eh? ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 23:49, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- There was nothing there to suggest it was specifically a "one-shot deal". The fact ROH is putting it front and center on their website that he is coming back should be good enough. WWE is promoting Batista as coming back, and there's no questioning to the length of the contract or anything over there either. The sources given and the fact ROH is tripping over themselves promoting it is sufficient enough. Vjmlhds (talk) 03:12, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Think about this...why would ROH go out of their way to bring AJ in and promote him just for a non-descript TV taping, and then send him on his way? Gotta use common sense and logic here...when a company is promoting a guy like AJ the way ROH is, there's more to it than just the one TV taping. Vjmlhds (talk) 03:25, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
First, the ROH release doesn't state they have him contracted for an extended period. It could be a short-term deal if that. Yes, ROH would be promoting the shit out of this even if they didn't have him for a long time. AJ has not been there for 8 years and is one of the most wanted free agents right now. He was there when ROH started. It is best to say he is contracted for the show, until we know more regarding the entire deal. For now, it is just speculation he will be there for the foreseeable future. All we know is he is to appear at the tapings. Outside of that, there is no info as of yet. Afterall, even James Caldwell is reporting this is a one time thing and that this is part of the storyline.--WillC 05:25, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
Yup. What seems to be logical is irrelevant if it's not verifiable. ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 16:41, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Well, we have a little more clarity...according to this report, AJ will be with ROH at least for a little while. Is it a long term deal where AJ will be there for years and years...no. But this does indicate that this is more than a just a one and done. Vjmlhds (talk) 18:23, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Did you even read the source?? It's taken from this report by PWInsider which states " He won't be signing with the company". This is just not acceptable. Do not edit war by reinserting speculation or badly-sourced material!! ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 18:41, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- 1. I don't appreciate the accusation of edit warring. 2. Just because you say it's a bad source doesn't make it so. 3. The source said he wouldn't be signing long term with the company. The fact he's working numerous dates shows that he does have a short term contract. Regardless if it's long term or short term, this report shows AJ does have some sort of deal with ROH. Vjmlhds (talk) 18:49, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
:1: You are repeatedly inserting inappropriate material without heed to policy and ignoring myself and another editor pointing out the error. I believe that constitutes edit-warring.
:2: You didn't read my comment. I stated it is unacceptable for you to use a source which contradicts the sentence you tried to cite with it.
:3: The blog post you use as a source credits the news to a PWInsider article which states He won't be signing with the company (their words). Therefore it is totally idiotic to use it to cite a sentence stating the opposite.
:4: Please read WP:No original research. Personal analysis and theories are not appropriate for Wikipedia.
:5: Your most recent change to the lead paragraph states Styles is "currently making appearances for Ring of Honor"... HOW ON EARTH can Styles be currently doing something he hasn't done yet?? Also, that edit was contrary to MOS:LEAD by giving undue weight to something trivial that hasn't even happened yet.
:6: 411mania is a self-identified blogging community, not a reliable source. Please don't use 411mania as a reference again. If, as in this case, they are passing on news from another source then identify that source (in this case PWInsider) and use that.
:7: If I've being abrupt with you, it's because you claim to have made 20,000 edits and to be a Veteran Editor IV, so I have to assume a very high understanding of Wikipedia's policies. ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 20:30, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- You know, using the word "idiotic" towards another editor could be looked at as WP:Personal. I understand wiki's policies very well thank you very much. And by having multiple appearances lined up, that shows that there is some sort of deal/agreement in place (albeit short term). Any performer (actor, musician, athlete, wrestler, or whatever) that makes any kind of appearance has a contract in place...it's just they way the world works. They don't say every time Tom Cruise stars in a movie that "Tom Cruise has signed a contract to play So and So in Such and Such movie". It's just assumed. No movie studio, sports team, business, or wrestling promotion ever announces anything publicly unless all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed. ROH and AJ sat down, agreed to the terms, put pen to paper, and once the ink dried made the announcement. AJ wouldn't be making the appearances for ROH he's scheduled to do without out all the legalities squared away. Vjmlhds (talk) 22:18, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- I've already explained this. Your personal theories on contractual status are completely irrelevant to editing Wikipedia. Only information that is verifiable should be added. And the PWInsider story that you tried to use as a source clearly verifies that AJ Styles is not a contracted ROH employee. End of story. ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 22:50, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

A.J. or AJ?
His official website and Twitter uses "AJ" rather than "A.J." with the initials. As does the WWE, TNA and ROH websites. Perhaps the article should be renamed to reflect this? JJARichardson (talk) 20:22, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
Lead image
Can I ask why we have the picture of A.J. as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion in the article twice? One of them being as the lead image?? It's not that sharp of an image, at least not compared to the alternatives we have. Tabercil (talk) 03:54, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Should it be 'Return to WWE' not just 'WWE'?
Because he was on WWF TV in 2002 so technically he returned at the Royal Rumble and did not debut. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mogomaniac (talk • contribs) 05:30, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
I agree. He workd two matches for them but never had a contract. There is no "return". 2601:C1:401:4D0D:E0A8:8668:6CB0:8A11 (talk) 03:10, 22 February 2016 (UTC)bonevoyage
- Nope, AJ Styles already performed on an internationally televised WWF program in 2002. By this moronic "no contract" logic, Rick Rude did not appear on WWF television in the fall of 1997, nor did Lex Luger in the summer of 1995. They did. B. Mastino (talk) 03:53, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Is Styles the only pro wrestler ever to compete in WCW, The NWA, The WWF/E, ROH, TNA, NJPW, CMLL, and AAA?
If yes, it should be in the article. It would be great if someone could do some extensive research.
- Mere trivia. A celebration of smarkdom for those who already know all this stuff anyway. B. Mastino (talk) 15:18, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Keep both A.J. Styles AND AJ Styles as ring names + keep infobox picture as Styles arm raised on Raw + requesting page lock
Both ring names are correct and he uses both, always has. Also stop changing the infobox picture for crying out loud, its getting ridiculous. The one where he is at an indy show in 2014 is outdated, KEEP the one with him getting his hand raised on Raw. Also when these have been done, lock the page from editing so people can't keep messing with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.166.205 (talk) 20:35, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

New, non-copyrighted image of Styles needed desperately for infobox image
The one of him now at a 2014 indy show is so outdated. Can someone find like a fan photo from the crowd when Styles was in the Royal Rumble match? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.166.205 (talk) 21:24, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
