[edit]Would it be warranted to move this article to AIK? The name "Allmänna Idrottsklubben" is hardly used. // Fred-Chess 11:30, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
The following text, from Sol Invictus, belongs here. There is a link in the See also section at Sol Invictus (Wetman 07:30, 15 November 2005 (UTC)):
- "Sol Invictus is the name of a supporterorganisation to the Swedish club AIK. It was founded in december of 2004 and their goal is to, by any founds necessary, help their club in the most efficiant way possible. In the year 2005 it did so in many ways by ideal work and made a name of it self by raisin over 100 000 swedish kronor to pay a penelty given to AIK by the SvFF.
- Their leader is a devoted supporter named Peter Knochenhauer, but it is indead a democratic organisation. A visit to their homepage www.solinvictus.se is well worth the time, though it is yet all writen i Swedish."
- I don't think "General Sports Club" is a good translation, I think "allmän" here means that everybody is able to join, so maybe "Public Sports Club" or "Common Sports Club". 81.232.72.53 23:46, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
AIK disambiguation page
[edit]I was wondering if AIK (disambiguation) should be created for links to the other sports clubs named AIK? Something roughly like this:
- AIK, Allmänna Idrottsklubben - multiple sports club in Solna, Sweden
- Avesta AIK - football sports club in Avesta, Sweden
- Sandvikens AIK - bandy sports club in Sandviken, Sweden
- Skellefteå AIK Hockey - ice hockey sports club in Skellefteå, Sweden
- Älvsjö AIK FF - women's football sports club in Stockholm, Sweden
AIK should still redirect to Allmänna Idrottsklubben, with link to the disambig somewhere on top. --Bamsefar75 13:52, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
I don't think it should, because you don't call skellefteå aik "AIK", you call them "skellefteå aik". AIKÄRBÄST (talk) 13:33, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
Article move to AIK
[edit]I suppose it wouldn't be mannerly of me to just move this article to AIK. But since other club's articles aren't called e.g. Manchester United Football Club, Lille Olympique Sporting Club Lille Métropole, or Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol de Barcelona, S.A.D., I think the only logical is to move this article to AIK. AIK is simply the name of the club.

Merger proposal
[edit]I agree this should be merged with AIK Fotboll
Old for Scandinavia ?
[edit]GF Idrott, Landskrona was formed in 1889. The Copenhagen football league "A-rækken" began in the 1880's. There are at least 25 Scandinavian sports clubs older than AIK ! Have a look here https://web.archive.org/web/20170304094725/http://www.fodboldfyn.dk/PDF.%20Filer/Nye%2029-12-12/fodboldfyn%20danske%20pdf/dansk%201888-1909.pdf In the Copenhagen Football League known as A-rækken , which began two years before AIK was founded, in 1889, are the following clubs mentioned (1889 and 1890)
- KB, Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (founded in 1876 - 15 years ahead of AIK)
- AB, Akademisk Boldklub
- Melchioranerne
- Haabet
- Frem
- Østerbro
- Christianshavn
- Olympia
Although most of these clubs no longer exists (however KB, AB and Frem do still) were they playing football before AIK existed. And I can add (still existing) GF Idrott , Landskrona founded in 1889. But the oldest Scandinavian sports clubs was Cykling-clubs or (often military-related) Gymnstics-clubs. (Perhaps skiing clubs in the north, I don't know) But stating "AIK was among the first sports clubs in Scandinavia" is untrue. By 1891 there was plenty of various sports clubs in Scandinavia. "Among the first" must at the very least be among the ten first sports clubs - in entire Scandinavia (if Scandinavia is used in the sentence). But I doubt AIK was among the first ten sports clubs in Stockholm even. Having said that, is AIK still an old club, and a one which still exist. But we must be thorough with hasty conclusions without sources. Boeing720 (talk) 00:13, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Allmänna Idrottsklubben → AIK – Per WP:COMMONNAME. Jonteemil (talk) 07:25, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

- Support it seems that coverage both in English and Swedish refer to the team as AIK more than Allmänna Idrottsklubben; however, it is not uncommon for articles to write
Allmänna Idrottsklubben (AIK)
then refer to as AIK afterwards. Furthermore, you have articles like AIK IF already instead of Allmänna Idrottsklubben Ishockeyförening. snood1205(Say Hi! (talk)) 20:34, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
