identification

[edit]

AHNAK was first identified in 1989 as desmoyokin as a protein of an exceptionally large size present in desmosomal plagues https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2115823/pdf/jc10941511.pdf

Itss sequence was partially decoded and unusual structure was predicted in 1992: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC49314/ It was given the name AHNAK (giant in Hebrew). There were no data to indicate that AHNAK and desmoyokin are one and the same gene/protein. This was discovered later: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8408266/ 2001:5A8:6BF:8900:97D:BF9C:728:DF8A (talk) 22:15, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
