Linking entries to broadcasters

[edit]

To separate this from the previous discussion, there has to be something in the article, that will explain for example which entries of Malaysia/Iran has been nominated by which broadcaster. May be it can be done in the same style note as Vanuatu, or may be you have other proposal on that. I think this is important information, so it has to be included in some way. I'm testing out a variety of options in regards to this via my sandboxes. Once I feel satisfied with a few ideas, I will then share them on here for viewing. And then hopefully pick the best one to use. Wesley Mouse 16:01, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments

[edit]

In this stage of the review I'm going to make my comments, in sequence, section by section, but starting with the History section and finishing with the WP:Lead.

  • History -
  • I've already cleaned up some of the grammar/prose and fixed some OVERLINKING as I worked my way down this section, so I'm not going to list those as "problems" to be fixed.
  • In the third paragraph, I'm not sure what "Historically, ASEAN song contests had been organized in periods between 1981 and 1997, however since 2011 the ASEAN Festival had been organized between local Radio stations as Bintang Radio ASEAN" means; and its also unreferenced. Note: its the "....in periods between 1981 and 1997" that causes concern, as well as "...Radio stations as Bintang Radio ASEAN". Should the latter be "...Radio stations such as Bintang Radio ASEAN"?
  • Location -
  • As currently written, the whole of this section is about Seoul and no mention is made, whatsoever, of the ABU Radio Song Festival and/or the ABU Song Festival.
  • I'm not convinced that the this section is compliant with WP:WIAGA clauses 3(a) and (b); and it needs to be made compliant with these two clauses if this article is to gain GA-status. At the moment, it looks a "padding" just to "bulk out" the article.
  • Perhaps the only justification for the mention of Seoul, is that it was both the venue for the 49th General Assembly (of the ABU) and the ABU Radio Song Festival 2012:-
  • Could location/venue of the 49th General Assembly be mentioned in this section, and it is relevant in this context?
  • It might also help if the National host broadcaster subsection was moved out of the Format section and put into this section.
  • Format -
    • Untitled first subsection -
  • The whole of this section needs a copy edit, as only some of the prose is written in the past tense (its now 2013, so this is the correct tense) and some is written in the future tense (as if the event had not yet happened, clearly it has or there would be no article).
  • The first paragraph consists of two short sentences (they are not full sentences, so its actually only one sentence) and they leave various (unasked questions) unanswered. It needs to be expanded:
  • It states "The ABU Radio Song Contest and the ABU TV Song Festival which took place between 11–17 October 2012 during the 49th ABU General Assembly", did they both literally take place during the General Assembly, or just at the same time; and was it at the same venue or at one or more different venues?
  • The Lead and the second paragraph of this section both state the ABU TV Song Festival occurred on the 11 October 2012, so presumably it was the ABU TV Song Festival which took place between 11–17 October 2012?
  • What is the difference between the ABU Radio Song Contest and the ABU TV Song Festival, this article does not say?
  • Having read the second paragraph, I think the first paragraph (or possibly the second) aught to make it clear that the ABU Radio Song Contest was in two rounds and that only the second round was broadcast (if I got the second paragraph right)?
  • In the second paragraph, the first sentence is unreferenced.
  • It's also not stated where the preliminary round took place, nor when it took place, or whether there was a studio audience (if it took place in a studio)? However, a date of 14 September 2012 for the withdrawal of Fiji does appear in the Participating countries section, so it is presumably on or before 14 September 2012?
  • The Participating countriessection uses a different description pre-qualification round to the one used here. I think the date or time frame aught to appear here, and the two descriptions made consistent.
  • In the second sentence, reference 4 is broken, it gives a 404 error message - File or directory not found.

....stopping for now. To be continued. Pyrotec (talk) 20:29, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you on this one. I've been extremely busy with work schedules in real life. In regards to the second point for the history section, yes it should read "such".

Location: I thought I had mentioned the festival in this section, but as you have noted it doesn't appear to be there now. I will need to review that and add something into the section to avoid it looking like padding text. I agree that the location and venue of the 49th General Assembly should be mentioned in this part too as it is very relevant to the article. And I further agree that the national host broadcaster could be moved from the format section into this one.

Both the Radio and TV festivals did take place during the ABU's 49th General Assembly, and in the same venue too. The assembly took place between 11 - 17 October 2012, with the radio festival taking place on 11 October and the TV festival on 14 October.

There's no information from any reliable source that mentions where or when the preliminary round took place. All the sources state is that a jury selected songs from the ones that were submitted. It is very difficult trying to find reliable sources for these two festivals as they were debut contests and only one source (ESCKaz) did the primary reporting of the contests. Thanks. I've had a few days off and I've not yet finished reviewing, so there we be some more comments and then I'll put the review "On Hold" to give time for you to fix things. Pyrotec (talk) 15:56, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Format (continued) -
  • I did a quick copyedit, so I'm not adding any more "problems" to this section.
  • Participating countries -
  • Looks OK.
  • International broadcasts -
  • This needs a minor update as it is written in the future tense, i.e. "Each participating country will be invited to broadcast both events ...", as its 2013 and those events presumably happened to plan?
  • Again, this needs an update as it is written in mostly the future tense, but some is past tense: i.e "... twelve radio broadcasters in ten countries to go forward to the final show which was held on 11 October 2012. Fifteen entries were originally selected to participate in the grand final. However Fiji and Sri Lanka later withdrew from the radio competition prior to the final show, and thus only thirteen entries will now participate in the competition which is scheduled to take place on 11 October 2012".

Most of the "problems" are fairly minor and are mostly of "grammar", so I'm putting the review "On Hold" for these to be addressed. Pyrotec (talk) 14:51, 10 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. That's 2 GA's under my belt now. I feel really proud of myself. Hopefully the TV contest should be easier, as I did alterations on that too based on the suggestions for this one. WesleyMouse 11:46, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
