Vicars Oak
[edit]I am guessing the Vicars Oak is a public house. But it could be a tree, or in fact anything. Someone that knows for sure please state.Carlwev (talk) 10:35, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- It was a tree. I have found a ref and cited it. Well spotted! Baldy Bill (sharpen the razor|see my reflection) 14:43, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- OK I added that to the text for clarity, also, - the source added suggests the tree itself has been gone for a long time; London Boroughs have only been there for 50 years, within which boundaries have remained almost completely unchanged from when they originally set. So I don't know how the tree would mark boundaries for divisions that didn't exist when the tree did. I am guessing it means a spot of ground, at the cross roads continued to be called the Vicar's Oak for a long time after the tree itself died. And the spot of ground named the Vicar's Oak was used as the boundary marker. Or feasibly as a guess the tree was a parish boundary marker, the boundaries where kept then used again for London Boroughs. I know it's straying from info about a road but I don't think the sentence is clear. I don't want to remove it because I don't necessarily think it's incorrect, just needs clarity.
