I took a couple of courses with Prof. Russell-Wood in the mid-1970s and recall his interest in the "instant community" effect associated with gold mining in the Americas. Also, I believe he was part of the Atlantic history group at JHU during that period. In terms of teaching style, he recorded his lectures (made available on cassette tape copies) and used the class time for discussion - an approach that could be seen as presaging current interest in using online formats to deliver lectures before meeting in the classroom.--A12n (talk) 08:44, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
