The move from Cossor House in Highbury to Harlow was part of the general decentralization encouraged by the government and facilitated through the New Towns. It was not greeted with universal acclaim. Highbury finally closed in 1962. Quite a few die-hards (including Pterre senior) were still 'commuting the wrong way', getting up at 6am to catch a company bus and rarely seeing home in daylight, into the 1970s.Pterre 19:41, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your recollections about Cossor, Pterre. Do you have any other information on the place that could be incorporated into the article? (A. Carty 20:35, 2 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I will have a dig in the loft. Pterre 23:52, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Philips

[edit]

It is not correct that Cossors were taken over by Philips. As I understand it they sold the rights to use of the 'Cossor' name for domestic radios etc. However the A.C.Cossor company continued to trade, and was eventually taken over by Raytheon. The company timeline is correct, not the reference to Philips above it. Pterre (talk) 18:29, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Cossor is still part of the American group." - I'm not sure that this is strictly correct. The Cossor name does not show in a Companies House search. During the 90s, when Raytheon took over Hughes at Glenrothes and merged them with Cossor in Harlow to create Raytheon Systems Limited, use of the Cossor name was frowned upon and potentially career limiting. 86.150.26.84 (talk) 08:03, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
