8th Frigate Squadron
[edit]Information on Wiki regarding 8th Frigate Squadron states it was formed in 1973 with HMS AJAX and her Captain the 1st Squadron Leader. This is incorrect. 1971 was the year the Fleet was divided into two flotillas with each flotilla made up of frigate squadrons.
I believe HMS ARETHUSA was the first Capt F8. I served on HMS CLEOPATRA 1970 to 1973 and she was assigned to the 8th FS with ARETHUSA as our leader
and at the time HMS DANAE as half leader. We were deployed to the ANZUK Force in Singapore for part of that time 1971/72. Navy History Net will verify this. I have photos of ARETHUSA as CAPT F8 (black topped funnel with figure 8) both taken 1971/72. Phil Roy 1.128.108.158 (talk) 04:27, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
