RAF Squadron numbers

[edit]

RAF Squadrons - unlike their USAF equivalents, and some British Army units, are almost never referred to ordinally, hence my change to "77 Squadron" rather than "77th Squadron" etc.

Also, 20 RAF squadrons were each equipped with three THOR missiles, and each based at a different RAF station within the UK, rather than the four referred to in the article. I believe the original intention was for there to be four squadrons, each with four "flights" of three missiles, although I don't know yet when the decision to change the structure was made. I'll try to find out a bit more. Regards, Lynbarn (talk) 11:48, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
