Merger proposal
[edit]This article is about the same topic as 588, rue Paradis with only a comma and a capitol "P" in the title as a major difference. So one of these articles should be removed.
- One of them definatly needs removed, as 588, rue Paradis is the newer one and seems to have less content, it should be the one merged into 588 rue paradis. This is also the way the film is titled on imdb (without the comma). Sarahj2107 (talk) 17:21, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Bonjour,
No! The title is in french language, and no translated ("rue" and not "street"), it is not "588 Heaven Street", and the right title in french is really "588, rue Paradis" (cf : fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/588,_rue_Paradis), with the comma and capitol "P" in tittle, as the adresses are wrote in France... This is the good title, not "588 rue paradis" who is a "monster" mixing french language and english typography. (And no matter if the bad tittle is the older in the wikipedia in english). Please, move informations from 588 rue paradis to 588, rue Paradis, remove 588 rue paradis and keep 588, rue Paradis. Merci beaucoup. --YANN92340 (talk) 10:11, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- I did the merge, you can move the merged content to the other name if you want. (Don't forget to move the talk page.) --STUART (talk) 21:19, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
English title?
[edit]Just a comment here to note that IMDb asserts that this film's English title was Mother -- however, it also assigns the English title Mother to the director's previous film Mayrig, so it's not clear at this point whether they both had the same English title or whether that was just an error on their part. It is certainly within the realm of possibility given that this film is a sequel to Mayrig, but one would still expect at least a "Part Two" if that were true, and the fact that they aren't just parts 1 and 2 of the same French title seems relevant as well.
However, the rule on the English Wikipedia is that we title our articles about films with the English-release title, and retain the original foreign-language title only if no English-release title can be located at all. Because we serve an English-speaking audience, the rule here is "what title is actually seen in English-language sources and thus likeliest to be expected by an English speaker", not "always use the original-language title on principle". So if English titles can actually be verified for this film and/or Mayrig, then the articles need to be moved to those titles -- but obviously, given the fact that both films are claimed to have the same English-language title by IMDb, we would need other outside verification of whether that's actually true or not before we actually go ahead with any page moves.
