[edit]I find no reliable source that establishes a relationship between the 538th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron and this unit. The justification given by User:Ktr101 for the move to this title in 2010 was "It appears that it was reactivated under this name".
The edit to the lineage at the time, "Re-constituted [sic] as 538th Air Expeditionary Advisory Squadron in provisional status, by Air Education and Training Command, 31 October 2008: Activated on 1 November 2008." is certainly wrong. The 538th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron could not have been reconstituted, because it was not disbanded; Air Education and Training command could not have reconstituted it because it does not have the authority to do so, and the squadron is assigned to to Central Command.
The 538th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron emblem displayed on the article bears no resemblance to the emblem used by the expeditionary squadron (emblems can indicate relationship between units when they match).
Equally likely predecessors exits if this is just a guess.
- None, the squadron is newly constituted
- The 538th Bombardment Squadron
- The 538th Flexible Gunnery Training Squadron
