topic
[edit]There should be a topic on the "AD540" event (which occurred in AD535). It is a synthesis of data from across the world which seeks to tie all of the disasters and events after the reporting of a catostrophic event (most likely a comet or volcanoe) in 535AD together, claiming that reports in that year from across the globe of adverse weather (like snow in August in China), heavy rain, drought etc and the subsiquent impacts of those conditions (disease, famine, population movements of Turks and Germans, and possibly the rise of Islam) changed the course of history. I understand that it is a subject much discussed, and so should be a Wikipedia article too. 144.32.126.11 (talk) 18:30, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
A mysterious event in A.D. 536 - perhaps a comet or an Asteroid impact - produced drought in Mesoamerica and famines in Asia and pushed waves of migration and plague across Europe and the Middle East. (More information is needed.) Bobkasper 19:39, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
dubious
[edit]Our article says:
Early in 536 (possible) – Volcanic winter of 536: A volcano erupts in Iceland.
I don't question that a volcano erupted on Iceland. I question the implied claim it was this volcano that caused the Volcanic winter. If you go read our article on Volcanic_winter_of_536#Possible_explanations you'll see that editors have added science that the article now claims debunks the idea that the ash came from an Icelandic eruption. Hence, dubious. If you can make our articles agree, please do. CapnZapp (talk) 15:25, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- I've removed mention of any particular volcano - readers can click through to Volcanic winter of 536 to read more. Barnards.tar.gz (talk) 15:54, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
