Talk:4-metre band
Untitled
[edit]Hello
Searching for "4 meter" eventually leads to a page called "4 metres". But wouldn't it be better to use as much ISO as possible, i.e. no plural and m or meter? (ISO31).
73 Bo, OZ2M
- Using no plural may be correct as per ISO but it makes for abominable English grammar, Bo. It just sounds ugly.
- As for the spelling 'meter' - from the manual of style. If an article's subject has a strong tie to a specific region/dialect, it should use that dialect. As the English speaking countries with majority of 4 metre operators (the UK and Ireland) spell the word 'metre', that's the spelling that should be used in the artcile.
- Add redirects if you think it's an issue. I added metre redirects for all the HF ones.
- I've moved the article to the American usage of spelling, but for a different reason: to keep it consistent with the spelling usage in the other ham bands (i.e. the others listed at Template:AmateurRadioBands-VHFUHF). I realize completely that this band is really only used in the UK and Europe, and Africa, so it would seem the manual of style would not be against using British spelling, however, this is not an entirely specific reason - it's not, say, Ham radio in the United Kingdom or something. Nonetheless, I would have used British spelling as you did.
- However, I think it is more important to keeep the articles titles' dialects consistent. If you disagree then let's discuss it. --Jatkins (talk - contribs) 16:43, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]There is way too much information in this article not to have it broken down into sections.--Kharker 19:43, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Map
[edit]Hi, I started a map showing different regions where 4m band allocations exist. I'm not sure it is complete, so please let me know if there are any corrections to be made. Thanks. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 00:03, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
