Regiment or Battalions

At some point someone's going to have to make the call if this is a history of 3rd Marines, or of 3rd Marines and its battalions. 3rd Marines only had direct control of its battalions in World War 2 and Desert Storm. Starting in Vietnam, the Marine Corps began rotating different battalions under different regiments. Also, 3rd Marines only made one deployment to the GWOT: Afghanistan 2008-2009.
