Notability
[edit]I'm concerned about the notability of this article. What is special about this man that makes him notable compared with other shop keepers? Does he have several 3rd party newspaper coverage of his life and achievements? Victuallers (talk) 23:30, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- He is notable in my mind but then again I wrote it. If you read the facebook comments from the beginning then it may ease your concern. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=130529310291825 Hopefully someone else can back me up on his importance to monmouth. On some old photograhs of Monnow Street there are up to 4 signs indicating the Ferneyhough shops that moved about. Thinking about it I should put that picture on the page also.Anthony Cope (talk) 08:50, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Please see WP:Notability. Perhaps the shop is more notable than the person, and the article could be refactored accordingly, without losing any of its current content? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:14, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
I remember seeing a newspaper articles on Ferneyhough while he was alive. Which would make him a bit more notable. I think it was the South Wales argus. The article was triggered by the outrage after he was beaten half to death by some youths but I cant find it on line. I can probably find the Monmouth beacon article about the event but that's abit local. Dont know if there are archives available for South Wales Argus. I can access most national newspaper archives but local ones 20th century require a visit :( I think there was also upset at the fact he was ceremoniousness carted off to Chepstow to die after spending a lifetime in Monmouth
You may right in that the shop was more notable than the person . I seem to have rambled on about previous uses of the premises :) If you want to change it to a shop then please go ahead because I am a bit new and don't know how :) Anthony Cope (talk) 23:06, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Does anyone else have a view? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:00, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- Suggestion - merge with Church Street, Monmouth? Victuallers (talk) 19:00, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
I wont object if its to be merged as its a bit incongruous as it is because 24 Church street is fairly inconspicuous as a building so it would be a good addition to church street as a whole :) Anthony Cope (talk) 19:55, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Coordinates
[edit]Are the coordinates on this article for his grave, or the shop, or somewhere else? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:14, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
The Coordinates were where the picture was taken from looking at the shop. Anthony Cope (talk) 23:06, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
