Division 1A 'E'

[edit]

In these six team tournaments, any time you have three teams with 6 points and three teams with 0 points, after two games, the three teams with 0 points are unable to win the tournament anymore. In this case FRA, AUT, KAZ, each have to play each other still, so the least amount of points 1st place can have is 9 (they all have to win one and lose one game or someone goes above nine) and they would all be tied at that amount. Then DEN, HUN, or JPN, can win all their remaining games and get to 9 points, but only one of them can, since they all play each other. So you would have a 4 way tie for first and DEN, HUN, or JPN (whichever won all remaining games) would have two losses in the tie-breaker and be unable to come out on top.18abruce (talk) 10:59, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Or, you can take the total amount of points available in the entire tournament (15*3=45), realize that the bottom three teams can only get to 9 points, so that the only way for them to be first in the tie-breaker is with a 5 way tie at 9 points (they already have two losses to teams that will be tied, need two wins in the tie-breaker). That is no longer possible with three teams at 0 with two losses, who each still play each other.18abruce (talk) 11:07, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
