Name
[edit]Should this be titled "2024 Portland, Oregon City Commission election"? The previous election pages have that specific title for local government elections. AndrewSDillman (talk) 19:58, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Endorsement Standards
[edit]So our job is to be following Wikipedia guidelines while being educational. I've studied several local races and statewide races however and there's a problem with sourcing endorsements. Most endorsements that are recorded are only really covered by Twitter or the campaigns themselves or in Portland's case ads and voters pamphlets. That presents a challenge to provide quality content. While we can agree self sourcing are unreliable, perhaps we can rely on statements by people themselves? That's how most people endorse these days and in local races, endorsements aren't covered extensively in the media, even locally prominent officials, only on occasion. It's the exception rather than the norm which makes it difficult to educate readers on the election using those standards. In order to provide an unbiased, quality article, I pose this as an open ended question of how to improve the current system, rather than making a specific recommendation. So in this article specifically as a base, what can we do to make it more accessible and educational while following Wikipedia's guidelines and standards, and improving the current situation? - Alternatively we could rely on Multnomah County Voters Pamphlet Statements because those require the signature of the endorsers. GrandPeople44 (talk) 18:31, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
Candidate Tracker
[edit]This seems to be the best source on up-to-date news on candidates coming in, dropping out, endorsing, or being endorsed. Harimauhobbes (talk) 23:57, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
Election results
[edit]Is there a good template on Wikipedia to show the results of the election in either a table or a graph? I can't find a whole lot that would work very well for STV elections and the only Sankey chart maker I can find isn't on Wikipedia. Harimauhobbes (talk) 18:42, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- The STV election infobox templates are probably the best fit (usage example). Documentation isn't great but if you go to each template page and then click "What links here" on the right side you can see a list of pages that use the template.
- There's also Template:Election box ranked choice begin that the mayoral election page is using, but it might be a little confusing with 3 winners. Jamedeus (talk) 23:52, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- The STV inbox template looks like an okay fit! I'd love something more graphical but it looks great. Would someone be able to input it? It keeps giving me errors when I try to add it in. Harimauhobbes (talk) 00:32, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah I'll take a shot at it. Jamedeus (talk) 01:48, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Harimauhobbes done, let me know what you think! After seeing how huge these are I'm wondering if the template used on the mayoral election page might be better, but I put them in collapses so they don't take over the whole page.
- I wrote a script to automatically fill these in from the data published by multco (see citations) since doing it manually would be so labor intensive and error prone (plus I can just run it again when the final results are published). I checked the output for errors and don't see any but would appreciate it if others could take a look too, I've been looking at it for a while so could be missing something. Jamedeus (talk) 04:38, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- These look great! I especially like the ability to hide them so they don't take over the page like you said. These numbers do seem a bit outdated though--there are new numbers that have been released as of today on https://rcvresults.multco.us/! Harimauhobbes (talk) 05:30, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Totally missed the dropdowns in the sidebar somehow, thanks. I'll go ahead and update those. I'm also looking for a way to remove the party column (takes up a lot of space and not helpful) but that'll have to wait until tomorrow. Jamedeus (talk) 06:46, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Just wanted to ping you--we have new vote totals as of today! This is the final drop until November 27. Harimauhobbes (talk) 10:41, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Updated, thanks! Jamedeus (talk) 07:59, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
