Qualification: Allocation of Berths
[edit]Hello everyone, older U18/U16 championship pages recorded the berths of each subzone and the number of additional berths. I think there was something wrong about the rule after the Oceania joined.
Here's my hypothesis.
- The Oceania has fixed berths of 2.
- The Asia has automatic berths: 2 (East Asia), 2 (South-East Asia), 1 (Central Asia), 1 (South Asia), 2 (Persian Gulf), 2 (West Asia)
- If the champion of the previous champion was from Oceania:
- The champion is qualified.
- The Oceania has one berth.
- The top 3 Asian teams contribute to berths of their subzones.
- If the champion of the previous champion was from Asia:
- The champion is qualified.
- The Oceania has two berths.
- The top 2 Asian teams other than the champion contribute to berths of their subzones.
I tested the rule on the U16/U18 championships after Oceania joined and found it matched the berths.
This rule also worked perfectly for this championship. The top 5 of 2022 were from EABA, EABA, EABA, WABA, WABA. So in 2024, EABA has 2 (auto) + 1 (previous champion) + 2 (additional) = 5 berths totolly.

- The host nation and the defending champion are qualified automatically and take one berth from their own subzones.
How do you guys think the rule is? Do you have any other hypotheses or evidences what the rule could be?
