Largest attendance 23,085 .. really??

[edit]

Description says that AFL finals ticket holders could access the AFLW match. Clearly this is a curtain raiser and should not be counted as the highest attendance of the season. There is daylight between this and the next biggest crowd and it absolutely inflates the average figure. It should be marked as C/R for curtain raiser and removed from the infobox. This article tends to agree that it is a curtain raiser figure, and not an actual AFLW attendance. https://thenightly.com.au/opinion/sport/caitlin-bassett-afl-needs-to-fix-aflw-schedule-if-league-is-to-success-in-make-or-break-season-c-16006389

Rulesfan, it is both – while nobody's denying that the match was refixtured to be a curtain-raiser, the description is sufficient, and we don't need to remove the figure from the infobox. At the end of the day, fans arrived earlier than they otherwise would have to watch the game, so the interest was there; it would be a different story if the AFL just gave the one crowd figure for the two matches, but as it's its own figure and well down from nearly 98,000, it's fine as it is. 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 09:19, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I feel that the AFLW attendance recording in these articles is a mess and I disagree on the interest, I think the fixturing this season has been extremely poor and it shows in the attendance figures. Have a look at how the 2024 NRL Women's season is done. It much more clearly indicates which matches are NRLW only and which are curtain raisers and they don't claim the season record for a curtain raiser either. Coincidentally if you're looking at averages for NRLW only attendance, they're doing better than the AFLW this season. Rulesfan (talk) 03:21, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop gatekeeping the article! -

[edit]

The Lions 6,102 crowd was 100% because of the men's premiership cup presentation. No other crowd this year has come even close to that. This is a well known fact, sources were provided and 4TheWynne deleted it!

The original removed text:

  • Brighton Homes Arena had scheduled Brisbane's men's team being to unveil their premiership cup at at the end of the AFLW match with AFLW ticketholders and club members receiving admission and both women's and men's teams singing a joint victory song together as reigning premiers.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Rulesfan, the sources that you've provided don't specify this; the Age source, which is more of a blog and probably isn't a super strong/ideal source anyway, says: The Lions are hosting their Queensland fan day at the same time as the AFLW game, which has meant a bumper crowd has filled their Springfield ground for the match. OK, great. Something that needs to be included in the article? Probably not. Yes, it mentions that the AFL team arrived there and they linked arms for the song, but I don't see how that alone is worthy of inclusion in the article, and the rest of the text that you added appears to be original research. Maybe think about these things before you start accusing me of gatekeeping. 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 04:03, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Original Research 4TheWynne ? Give me a break. Its not a blog, its a newspaper! Maybe actually read it! Brisbane Lions men's members were pretty much told to come to boost the crowd for the women's match. Quote below pretty much confirms that the crowd is for the men's side - NOT the women's.

"The Lions have a three-point lead going into the final quarter with a huge crowd building up at Springfield ahead of the arrival of the men’s side following their premiership win in Melbourne on Saturday."

And from Fox Sports ... (maybe you also call this a blog??)

"The contest was played at a frenetic pace with neither side willing to give an inch. But it was impossible to deny the infectious momentum of an AFL premiership as a boisterous maroon crowd packed Brighton Homes Arena. Those who stuck around welcomed Brisbane’s victorious AFL team home after they touched down during the second half. Lions AFLW players decided to watch the grand final separately to preserve energy for the top-of-the-table clash."

"QLD: We'll see you after the AFLW game at Brighton Homes Arena. Sunday 5pm-7pm. QLDers will need to purchase a ticket to the AFLW to manage stadium capacity."

"MEMBERS: If you're not going to the W game, and you're a member, head to this link and redeem a complimentary ticket. You MUST redeem a free ticket, and not just rock up, as our stadium has a strict capacity and we need to know how many people are coming: REDEEM HERE."

"The Lions are hosting their Queensland fan day at the same time as the AFLW game, which has meant a bumper crowd has filled their Springfield ground for the match."

If you're not coming to the W game, and you're not a member, then simply buy a ticket to the AFLW game, and come along to the game and our QLD Fan Day BUY HERE."

"From there, the team bundled into a plane and returned home, where they met with 6000 diehard supporters at their Springfield base just south of Brisbane."

FWIW it is gatekeeping when you delete or modify everyone else's contributions, as you have with mine. I understand your agenda is to help make women's comp look more impressive than it is, I'm an AFLW fan too but I think you/we also need a dose of realism with your hype. Even Kelli Underwood admits that playing alongside the men's season and hosting double headers with the men's are needed to maintain interest and stay competitive against the NRLW https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/womens-afl/aflw-news-2024-afl-womens-competition-fixture-needs-reset-says-kelli-underwood-aflw-on-fox-program-details/news-story/7294e3177bcd673abcf89c213a633171?recommendedCount=0 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rulesfan (talkcontribs) 00:13, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rulesfan, yes, I know that The Age is a newspaper, but this particular reference is formatted as a blog. You still haven't provided a source (including the Fox Sports article) that explicity says Brighton Homes Arena had scheduled Brisbane's men's team being to unveil their premiership cup at at the end of the AFLW match with AFLW ticketholders and club members receiving admission; it's textbook original research/synthesis. The only "agenda" that I have here is maintaining a high standard of sourcing/quality (how do you think I got the last two AFLW season articles to GA status?), and if you aren't going to adhere to that, stop wasting our time. 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 00:29, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ego much 4TheWynne ? You're the one wasting time, seriously. Unlike you I don't have any other agenda than to keep this article impartial. In terms of notability there are many more articles on the BL men's premierships than reports from this AFLW match. You're basically saying that the second biggest crowd in the ground's history (second only to the 2022 Grand Final) is for a home and away AFLW match and not to celebrate the men's premiership at their home ground. Explain to me exactly WHAT is synthesis and original research and show me a source that says that admission to this event was free ... If you weren't so focused on consistently blocking others/gatekeeping the article you would tag it as an unreliable source or editing out your objections. Please refer to WP:RS and WP:NEWSBLOG:

"the website of a major news organization—that publish in a blog-style format for some or all of their content may be as reliable as if published in standard news article format"

Afaik this is. Stop being a flog.
