Player movement tables

[edit]

@SuperJew and Totallynotarandomalt69: The new section re List changes has some merit, but the notability bar will need to be pretty high for retirements. Perhaps some kind of length of service minimum might be appropriate for players to be in the retirements section, as well as complete (and independent) sourcing. The table regarding pre-season player movement I'm not sure has any notability (especially as not many of the players individually would meet notability criteria). It feels a little redundant to me for a sub-elite competition.

The mid-season rookie draft table I think does have some merit, even if the information is already presented at the YYYY AFL draft articles. It would give readers an idea if players were progressing to the next level from the VFL/SANFL/WAFL competitions. Storm machine (talk) 04:53, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Perhaps some kind of length of service minimum might be appropriate for players to be in the retirements section"
75 or 100 games seems pretty fair I'd think (if we want to introduce that) since VFL players play a lot less than AFL
Potentially discard that rule for notability if it's an ex-AFL player (who already has an existing page)? Happy to try and limit this to those AFL-linked (which basically straight away increases their notability and also makes it easier to find independent sources etc). (cont, sorry): That being said, compared to the AFL there are not that many VFL retirements anyway (see respective section on 2022 VFL season page for example) so we may not need to really limit that section Totallynotarandomalt69 (talk) 05:03, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My initial thoughts on a criteria for notability for a player that hasn't satisfied the broader WP:GNG, would be a minimum five-year player at this level, and with some kind of individual (or team achievement), to be considered. Effectively the retirements table would then be able to have a column that details their notable achievements etc Storm machine (talk) 05:32, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this section has any notability at this level --SuperJew (talk) 06:11, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I apologise Totallynotarandomalt69 my first revert seems to have submitted before I finished the comment. Wasn't intentionally rude, though now I see it seems that way. --SuperJew (talk) 06:12, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I figured something like that might have happened @SuperJew, that's why I thought to discuss here rather than through edit summaries.
Was just thinking about something that might have better utility across these sub-elite competition season articles – a Notable events or Season summary subsection that could capture in bullets/prose the rookie draft selections, any notable retirements and/or significant player movement. This then could also be useful for those articles (SANFL etc) where any weekly notable occurrences (kicks after the siren, streaks, record scores etc) are not otherwise captured. Firstly - no worries at all @SuperJew
I think to keep with general notability we go with (and obviously this is open for discussion):
Retirements: what @Storm machine suggested, including 'notes' section or whatever for their achievements as a grand final player or captain or leading goalkicker etc
Keep mid-season draft, remove the movements from one VFL club to another but also add in regular VFL players drafted (this applies to SANFL and WAFL too)
There'd be plenty of independent sources that can help to back it all up and I'm happy to work on that Totallynotarandomalt69 (talk) 08:01, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
