[edit]@User:Liz Please review Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States#Future-class. In an effort to standardize across Wikipedia. Future class will no longer be used. I don't want to get into an edit war, so I thought I would provide you with information on current practice. Demt1298 (talk) 15:54, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

- 2023 USL Championship Playoffs → 2023 USL Championship playoffs
– Like other sports, leagues, tournaments, etc. (most recently see Talk:MLS Cup Playoffs#Requested move 31 July 2024), "playoffs" is generic, not part of the proper name "USL Cup" or "USL Championship". - Support per nom and recent consensus. GiantSnowman 12:57, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose: Sources in these articles, and from what I'm finding on search engines, seem to overwhelmingly capitalize "Playoffs". Seems to be treated as a common name and the unrelated linked discussion is entirely irrelevant, otherwise we'd have only needed one "Playoffs" proposed move ever. - Oppose per Hey man im josh. Randy Kryn (talk) 22:47, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Randy, in light of the confusion you admitted here, why not support this move per guidelines and sources? Dicklyon (talk) 21:06, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Support per MOS:CAPS, WP:NCCAPS, WP:CONSISTENT. This is the same as every other previous case like this. There is no mystical difference between this one and all the rest. MOS:CAPS:
only words and phrases that are consistently capitalized in a substantial majority of independent, reliable sources are capitalized in Wikipedia
(emphasis in original). Sources does not consistently capitalize this stuff; those that do so are mostly promotional. This is immediately and unmistakably noticeable in a news search, in which lower-case "playoffs" is common in actual news sources, while "Playoffs" is primarily found in non-independent, promotional sources (the league itself, websites of teams in the league, WP:UGC fansites of the league or a team in it, ticket sellers and city portals promoting events, etc.). Just like in all the previous cases. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 02:29, 14 August 2024 (UTC) - Support—SMcCandlish puts it very well. Tony (talk) 03:28, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Support: Most reliable sources don't capitalize the term in question, so the title shouldn't either. Waqar💬 19:36, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
