Talk:2021 FIBA Women's Asia Cup
Appearance
Seventh place game in standings tables
[edit]Would it be necessary to include it, and if it is, do we put "t" as status letters to all teams? As currently written, it impressed on the reader that there's no such game, until you reach the later sections, which adds to the confusion. Howard the Duck (talk) 14:02, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Howard the Duck: I changed it, is it better? Kante4 (talk) 15:00, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Now that you changed it, it's better. The next question is, would all 4 teams automatically "qualify" to the seventh place game, and add "t" as status letters, or we'd wait for something else to happen? Howard the Duck (talk) 15:14, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- We should wait until there is something determined. Kante4 (talk) 16:24, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Currently, all four teams per group are guaranteed to finish no worse than 4th, and play in the 7th place game. That means, all 4 teams had "qualified, but not on the phase indicated." We can opt not to use that and always use "qualified at the phase indicated" whenever a team qualifies for a specific phase and can no longer qualify to another one.
- I suppose the only instance a team won't play the 7th place game and finishing 4th is if they forfeit 2 games, which means they would have forfeited the entire tournament; that's very rare, though. Howard the Duck (talk) 17:48, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- That would make it more complicated for me. I think the way it is, is fine. And honestly, it's just 1 or 2 more days. Kante4 (talk) 17:51, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Just to be sure, we won't be using "T", and will exclusively use "Q", is that right? Howard the Duck (talk) 18:04, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- I think if a team qualifies for the next round (QF or qualification for QF) and is not sure where they play next, then i think a "T" can be added. But for now it would just be more complicate than it needs to be. Kante4 (talk) 18:24, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, so we're specifically excluding "qualifying" for the 7th place playoff for the purposes of the status letters. Is that right? Howard the Duck (talk) 18:35, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- For me, yes. As that is just the consolation prize for finishing last. But i'm open for suggestion(s), but as i said, it's over in two days. Kante4 (talk) 18:46, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- I have no problem with that. Pre-COVID, this 7th place game is akin to relegation playouts in football, so this is rather important. For this tournament though, there's nothing at stake. Howard the Duck (talk) 19:10, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
