Any reason why we don't use REDLINKS
[edit]Any particular reason that we don't use WP:REDLINKS for the CPL Draft articles. I feel Redlinks would be appropriate, for when these players make their appearances and get articles it would automatically link, instead of having to go back. I know not every player will crack a roster and get a page, but every other draft in every other league - MLS, NHL, NBA, NFL, CFL, NWSL, WNBA, etc - uses redlinks, and not all those players end up getting articles. - @RedPatchBoy: I'd still prefer not to have them. They make the page look ugly and everywhere else on Wikipedia we don't redlink soccer players who are not notable. I get that every other North American draft does it but I don't think that's a good enough reason on it's own. What makes the draft so special? BLAIXX 15:46, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Blaixx: I like redlinks as if and when articles become created then they automatically link, instead of having to go back and find and adjust later, which is part of the point of redlinks, for subjects which become notable in the future as well. I don't think it should be limited to the draft article, but should be done in the season articles as well, like 2018 Toronto FC season and other TFC season articles do. If there's a consensus to leave it as unlinked text, I won't oppose though. I changed it to redlinks after not getting a response here for a couple days, so I just decided to be WP:BOLD. - I'm going to have to disagree and state that redlinks are NOT for subjects who may become notable in the future – after all, we can't predict the future. Yes, it's a bit more work to go back and create the wikilinks but we reduce the risk of linking to the wrong person (WP:REDBIO) and de-clutter the page. BLAIXX 18:44, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- Fair enough, while I personally prefer the redlink, I'm not steadfast on it. There's definitely pros and cons for both. I won't oppose if you want to remove the delink the players. RedPatchBoy (talk) 19:12, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
